Where has the year gone? Winter is well and truly here! Can you believe it? Unfortunately, winter heralds the colds and flu season. You are probably thinking, ‘Oh no will I have
another one or two this winter?’ Remember the runny nose, nasal congestion,
sore throat, cough, headache, fatigue???

It is time to think about boosting your immune system to protect yourself
against colds and flu.

What is it?
Both the common cold and influenza are caused by a number of viruses. The common cold is linked to around 200 viruses while the flu is characterised by a single strain of virus, which changes slightly each year, making it difficult to develop an effective vaccine. Their common symptoms are similar with the flu having the following distinctive
features:

  • sudden onset with fever and chills
  • generalised aches and pains
  • fatigue and lack of energy
  • harsh and unproductive cough
  • dizziness, nausea and vomiting

Am I contagious?
You are contagious for up to three days from the initial onset of the cold symptoms. With the flu, you are contagious the day before symptoms start to about five days after.

How is it spread?
Colds and flu viruses are spread through contact with contaminated surfaces or inhaling infected droplets from a cough or sneeze. So ensure you wash your hands, cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze, and watch where your leave those tissues!

What about complications?
Those who get the flu usually do not develop complications. However, people over 50, young children, individuals under stress and those with
weakened immunity or chronic conditions may be at risk of developing complications such as otitis media (middle ear infection), sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia

What can I do?
Viruses are everywhere, in the air we breathe and the things we touch, but not everyone catches a cold or flu. You become vulnerable when your immune system is run down. What can I expect at a consultation?

Naturopathy
The initial consultation takes approximately an hour. Information regarding current symptoms, history, diet, lifestyle, sleep, energy, and health status of each body system are assessed. Diagnostic tools will be used to assess vitamin deficiencies that may impact immune function. After the consultation, an individualised program will be prepared. Supplements and/or a herbal tonic may be prescribed. 

Energy Healing Therapies
An initial consultation takes 1- 1 ½ hrs. A scan of the energy system combined with your case history provides the practitioner with information with which to address your health concerns. Healing of the subtle human energy system is beneficial as it restores balance and harmony to the body, mind and spirit. Treatments may include reiki, colour and crystal therapies, Australian Bush Flower Essences, aura and chakra clearing and balancing, intuitive healing (Theta / Orion) Emotional Freedom Technique. Nutritional therapy and iridology can be used to support and assess your body systems.

Body Harmony
Body Harmony is a hands-on method of body work based on the body’s natural
inclination and ability to heal itself. The goal is to allow the client new possibilities of thought, feeling, movement & action.

Transformational Coaching
This focuses on personal development and how you can be guided to create your own reality and passionately live the life you desire!

Reiki
Reiki is gentle hands-on healing – It is very relaxing, non-invasive, gentle and can soothe and heal physical, mental, emotional and spiritual discomfort.
